52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Week 8. I can Identify

Having completed the 52 Ancestors challenge in 2021, many of the stories within those themes show how I identified many of my ancestors and those I have yet to authenticate the identity. So for this weeks theme I thought I would talk about the first photograph I received of my paternal family taken around 1931/2.


As the photograph has been passed amongst the family so names have been  agreed and suggested. Looking at other family photo's, some other names can be guessed at and through knowledge of family deaths and relationships other may be attributed but not necessarily correctly.

So working from left to right, on the back row, of 5 men, I can identify:-
?Percival David Perry
?Ernest Perry
My Grandfather Maurice Frederick Perry
Hubert Jay
Leslie Mark Perry
not visible on this copy of the photo but on another there is possibly Edward Perry and why Percy and Ernest may also be in this photo.

The middle row of women and children:-
Dorothy Jay nee Perry
My Grandmother, Alice Perry nee Pitts
? Rhoda Annie Louisa Theobald
My Great Grandmother, Edith Perry nee Youell
Two girls: ? Evelyn and Olive Perry (Their mother died in 1930, whilst the girls were intigrated within the wider Perry family, the boys were put into care. As the youngest daughter Audrey is definitly pictured on the front row. It may be that her older siblings are also pictured.
Unknown although as Rhoda is pictured this may be her mother.

WOMENS HOME INDUSTRIES A Post War Home Workers Story  This post was inspired by a dress.* A family member manages a charity shop (thrift store, op shop) for The Plymouth Drake Foundation and received a donation of a bag of vintage dresses. Amongst these were some by the designer, Emma Hanbury and one that had all the elements of haute couture construction and made of silk. The label inside was:- I was asked to see if I could find any information about Dorothy Law of 10 West Halkin St, Belgrave Square, London, sadly I was unable to pinpoint the lady. However what I did find was a post war band of home workers utilising their needle skills to earn "dollars" for the UK economy. This is the story of Womens Home Industries of no.11 West Halkin Street.
